Research presentation standard · October 16, 2026
Evidence before inference.
Separate a measured reference, a calculation under assumptions, and a proposed future capability.
This standard follows the Society Observatory’s EVIDENCE.md. It applies to the current LSM reading path, all 22 project proposals, the public fusion release, and nBTC’s scientific and economic claims. Historical documents keep their original dates and scope.
Three evidence categories
| Category | Required disclosure | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Empirically calibrated | Identify the observed dataset, fitted quantity, method, units, uncertainty and applicability. | Agreement in that stated setting; independent validation is a separate step. |
| Theoretically motivated | Identify the published rationale or derivation and the assumptions used here. | A reason to investigate a mechanism or compute a conditional result. |
| Speculative | Identify the unmeasured mechanism, chosen coefficient, design target or future scenario. | A research question or ambition that still needs evidence. |
Computed under assumptions is an additional result label, not empirical calibration. Exact arithmetic, a geometric proof or a simulation can be correct within its definitions without showing that those definitions describe nature.
Use the same distinctions everywhere
| Example | Evidence and scope |
|---|---|
| Society Observatory | The approximate natural male birth probability has an observational reference. No psychological distribution, violence hazard, institutional response, technological growth coefficient or relationship preference has been fitted to observed human data. Simulation outcomes remain conditional on the selected rules. |
| LSM geometry | Cell counts and docking certificates follow the declared lattice geometry. Identifying these structures with physical particles and deriving dynamics require separate tests. |
| LSM mass comparison | K=346 and B=655 were selected against the measured proton/electron mass ratio. That fitted agreement is not a first-principles derivation or independent validation. “Zero parameter” remains the intended final objective. |
| Fusion release | A public, reproducible 30-cell docking audit and inventory ledger. No reaction rate, bound state, energy yield or physical fusion event follows from that artifact. |
| Project calculators | Inputs such as conversion efficiency, material properties and deployment scale must be read with their provenance. A calculated requirement is not demonstrated equipment performance. |
| nBTC and valuation | Ledger behavior is tested software. Experimental fusion, a realizable $50 trillion valuation, liquid reserves and legally committed backing rights are separate claims; none follows from a supply-conservation test. |
Minimum record for a new result
- State the claim and its evidence category.
- List inputs, units, assumptions, fitted values and their sources.
- Publish a reproducible method and the result, including null or negative findings.
- Separate uncertainty in the calculation from uncertainty in the model itself.
- State what observation would reject the claim and the next test that could change its status.
